A Rundown of Celine 15 Men’s Summer 23 Show, ‘Dysfunctional Bauhaus’
An homage to the 20-year anniversary of Hedi Slimane’s yearning relationship with Palais De Tokyo as he returns with the Celine Homme Spring/Summer 2023 show.
Wrapping up Paris Fashion Week is none other than the comeback of French luxury fashion House, Celine. In effervescent of Slimane’s inaugural Dior Homme Autumn/Winter 2002 show held at Palais De Tokyo, the Celine Homme 23 show took place at the same modern and contemporary arts centre. As Europe’s largest platform for contemporary creation, it is recognised as the living place of today’s artists and international cultural institution for different sectors of the public to explore the ways of thinking, living, and creating. ‘Dysfunctional Bauhaus’ is born out of Slimane’s fascination with Art Deco monumental architecture, honouring the offbeat yet ambitious palace with his menswear reform.
Slimane has expressed the importance of advocating new voices and musical talents as a quintessential role alongside the showcase of the garments. Accompanying the runway presentation are rhythmic tunes performed, written, and arranged by Gustaf, the up-and-coming punk band of Brooklyn, New York. Inspired by art funk ensemble, ESG, the grooves of Gustaf feature the dopey drawl of Jonathan Richman as well as the manic energy of the season. Their live set elevates the mood and pace in the room, resulting in a sound that uplifts and infectiously triggers one to move or dance.
Under the patronage of Hedi Slimane, Celine has been well versed in the art of collaborating with artists. The Menswear SS23 show is definitely not an exception, with honourary mentions of supplementary artworks from Alyss Estay, Renata Petersen, and internationally renowned artist David Weiss (1964 to 2012) where his estate is represented by the trusted hands of Matthew Marks Gallery, New York, and Los Angeles and Weiss Falk Gallery, Basel and Zurich.
Celebrities in attendance at the show included BTS’s V, Blackpink’s Lisa, and Actor Park Bo Gum.
From leather outerwear, blazers, sequin embellishments, skin-hugging jeans, and tailored suits, the collection is the embodiment of Slimane’s take on luxurious Punk.
