Herno, Colmar, And Parajumpers: 3 Eco-Friendly Brands At Pitti Uomo

Functional, fashionable, and friendly to the environment - these will probably be the key guidelines for fashion brands in the years to come, as the industry awakens to its crucial role in ameliorating the climate crisis. Fortunately, it seems that the tide is slowly turning, if the recent Pitti Uomo is anything to go by. 

Sustainability is a serious undertaking for Herno. The brand is expanding its business with investments in "green" projects, and returned to Florence with Herno Globe, which encompasses all the eco- and sustainability-driven initiatives within the main collection. At its booth in the Fortezza da Basso, between 3D projections and technological games, the label presented its new collection of biodegradable nylon puffer jackets, which can be broken down in just 5 years, as compared to the 50 years of other textiles. A parka, coat, and blazer crafted from 100% regenerated nylon (derived from waste products), and a peacoat made from recycled wool also made an appearance.

Futuristic Heritage is the key word for Colmar Originals. The company, which celebrates its 97th anniversary this year, presented a collection that embodies the dual nature of the brand - on the one hand historically linked to the mountains, and on the other, appealing to the tastes of a more transversal audience. Applying several innovative developments from the ski world to urban fashion, Colmar has created a hi-tech collection with a decidedly avant-garde flair. Jackets made of Graphene, an excellent conductor that ensures uniform heat distribution, sit alongside those made of water-repellent fabrics. 

Parajumpers returned to Pitti Uomo with two capsules born from a collaboration with Leonardo Fasolo: Polar Puffers, oversized jackets in durable ripstop cordura, and Next Generations, with a detachable synthetic interior, multiple pockets, and a hood edged in wool tricot.
