Step into the realm of Kenzo's Fall/Winter 2023 collection, created by Artistic Director Nigo, as he invites you to experience his latest collection influenced by the Japan that shaped his identity.
This campaign is a celebration of the intricate cultural dialogue at the heart of Kenzo, beautifully juxtaposing the essence of Kyoto and Osaka. It unveils a remarkable ensemble cast where East meets West, set against the backdrop of these two cities' distinct personas. Osaka, a vibrant hub of street culture and youthful energy, contrasts with Kyoto's historical charm, marked by a spirited, youth-driven music scene. Lensman Keizo Kitajima captures the essence of these locations through his on-location imagery, while Frank Lebon's moving shots further enrich the campaign, reflecting Nigo's cosmopolitan approach within the tapestry of his native Japan.
The synergy between Osaka and Kyoto beautifully mirrors the essence of the Fall/Winter 2023 Collection, a wardrobe that bridges cultures, eras, and styles. It unites the streets of Japan, America, and England, reminiscent of the youthful revolution of the Swinging Sixties. The collection elegantly weaves collarless tunic jackets, tapered trousers, and mini-skirts, echoing the silhouette of 1960s suiting. Oversized skirts pay homage to Great Britain's kilts, while Y-shaped coat closures draw inspiration from traditional Japanese uniforms. Seventeen's Vernon, newest and first global brand ambassador, makes an appearance alongside Nigo himself.
Photographer Keizo Kitajima captures urban residents in candid street portraits, showcasing their everyday interactions with the cityscape. This concept resonates in the dynamic moving imagery shot by British photographer Frank Lebon, set to the tune of "Dreamer" by Urban Dance from 1985, composed by Shinobu Narita with lyrics by Minako Yoshida. The film offers a glimpse of Nigo playing shogi in Kyoto's Shosei-en, dressed in the collection's iconic broken-stripe Dazzle motif, a nod to Kenzo Takada's 1980s archives.
