All The Times Troye Sivan’s Style Got Us Started

When Troye Sivan first waltzed into our lives as a YouTuber posting from his bedroom in Australia, no one could have predicted his eventual sensational success as a global pop singer-songwriter. Since his 2014 EP TRXYE almost a decade ago, Troye has become quite the icon. Something about his Gen-Z wit and laidback, raw energy draws us in, time after time. The same can be said about his style. 

What originally began as a simple tee-and-jeans combi is now Miu Miu and Valentino. That’s not even an understatement – Troye recently strutted down the runway at Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2024 show as a model during Paris Fashion Week. In celebration of such a big fashion moment, we’ve rounded up some of the singer’s best style moments over the years.

When Troye was cast in HBO’s The Idol, probably one of the most talked about shows of the year, fans were all giddy with anticipation. So when the show premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, it received a standing ovation. Troye, who played Xander in the series, appeared on the red carpet and afterparty alongside his co-stars at the event in a number of showstopping looks. Our favourite is this slouchy off-shoulder moment during the show’s photocall, where Troye was dressed in custom Valentino. 

Celebrities and stars sitting front row are now commonplace during Fashion Month, but Troye definitely made headlines during the Paris Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2024 collections. For Miu Miu’s show at the Palais d'Iéna, Troye strutted down the runway amongst the models for the Maison’s sporty, preppy collection. But it was Troye’s appearance at Rabanne’s show earlier that week that caught our eye. Clad in a contemporary Canadian tuxedo, the Rush singer bared his chest, save for a glass chest piece. The floral adornment was at once minimalist and maximalist, and a great way to make a statement amidst the hustle and bustle of PFW. 

At the annual amfAR Gala held in May this year, Troye turned up in an elevated Ferragamo look. The singer wore a slinky stone-coloured toga top, with an exaggerated train on the red carpet. The semi-sheer number paired with simple dress pants was a dashing look befitting the charity. We can confirm that he is indeed the moment.

The Met Gala of 2021 was centred around the theme of American Independence. While others in attendance each had their own takes on the dress code for the event, Troye’s look paid homage to American photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The photographer was known for his black and white celebrity portraits, and Troye’s clean fitted dress from Joseph Altuzarra was a subtle nod to the queer artist. Troye opted to complete the look with a leather cuff and a Cartier necklace, transforming a simple dress into a Met-Gala-ready ensemble. 

Fans of Troye have been waiting a long time for new music, given that the singer’s most recent full-length album was released in 2018. So it’s no wonder he'd been teasing us with videos, and photos from his album Something to Give Each Other. Following his the release of his pre-released tracks Rush and Got Me Started, Troye has taken to his Instagram to share updates for the album. One of his newest posts shows Troye in a wonderful mish-mash of an outfit. In fishnets, skinny white pumps and oversized sweatshirts, the Angel Baby singer shares his favourite track from the album. Safe to say that we’re pumped to see how the look is tied in with his music!

Earlier this June, when Troye showed up at Prada’s Fall/Winter 2023 runway show, he showed us that his style shifts fluidly. As much as he loves a soft moment, this look at the Prada show also presented us with a different side of Troye – the one that’s sculpted and controlled. The bold blocks of maroon, black and white made for a strong number, with a touch of athletic chic with his high socks and Prada loafers.

Back when men wearing crop tops were still groundbreaking, Troye made sure to demonstrate exactly how fashion-forward he was. At the 2021 MTV VMAs, Troye surprised us all by stopping on the red carpet in a Fendi cropped suit. Of course, eyes were on his abs but it was the blazer and shorts combi that stole the limelight that night. Before he evolved into the stylish character we know him as today, Troye opted to play it a little safer with some sensible Oxfords and high socks, to add some formality to the radical look.
