Blancpain X Swatch Celebrates the Fifty Fathoms
Following the success of MoonSwatch, this new collaboration explores the waters of the blue planet.
After a wildly successful venture to the moon and outer space with Omega, Swatch returns to the blue planet and set its sights on the deep seas. This time, the brand is partnering up with Blancpain, and brings its MoonSwatch concept to the iconic Fifty Fathoms.
Born exactly 70 years ago, the Fifty Fathoms was designed by actual scuba enthusiast and then CEO of Blancpain, Jean-Jacques Fiechter. The professional underwater tool found unanimous favour with the ocean community, and was worn by legendary explorers like Jacques-Yves Cousteau as well as elite marine corps around the world.
Swatch celebrates this undersea icon with the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms, referencing the brand’s own line of SCUBA dive watches. The five models in the non-limited collection faithfully reproduces the hallmarks of the Fifty Fathoms: superior water resistance, outstanding legibility, mechanical movement, secured rotating bezel and anti-magnetic protection.
Each of the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms is named after one of Earth’s five oceans, and features a colourful illustration of the whimsical nudibranchs found in those waters on the rotor — perfectly in keeping with Swatch’s playful attitude. The watches are equipped with the exclusive SISTEM51 movement, the first and only mechanical movement by Swatch which is also anti-magnetic thanks to its Nivachron hairspring, and cased in the patented Bioceramic material.
Fifty Fathoms devotees will recognise the special symbol on the ARCTIC OCEAN, used by Blancpain when it launched the world’s first ever diver’s watch without radium; the “No Radiations” text reinforces this message. Another noteworthy detail is found on the ANTARCTIC OCEAN: a water contact indicator that changes colour in the presence of moisture. This sensor is coveted by professionals to ensure the integrity of the watch cases.
The Blancpain X Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms will be available from 9 September at selected Swatch stores worldwide.
