Next April, the hit Broadway musical Hamilton will be staged in Singapore for a limited run at Marina Bay Sands. Created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical follows the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s Founding Fathers. The critically acclaimed musical is based on the 2004 biography of Hamilton by Ron Chernow and focuses on the stateman’s critical role in the American Revolution.

Starting November 14, theatre buffs will be able to secure tickets for the production, to be staged next year. To be the first to score tickets for Hamilton, fans can join the waitlist that is already open on baseasia.com/HamiltonSG. For its first international tour, Singapore will be Hamilton’s third stop, after visiting Manila in September this year, and Abu Dhabi next January.

The musical, beloved for its witty and catchy songs, combines elements of hip-hop, R&B, jazz and classic Broadway tunes in the nearly 3-hour production. The play and score have been well-received by theatre critics and musical enthusiasts alike, especially for its dynamism and clever motifs throughout the play.

Creator and lyricist of the show, Lin-Manuel Miranda took on the role of Alexander Hamilton in the original Broadway production, but Singaporean theatregoers will be watching Jason Arrow, who stars as the eponymous character during the show’s international voyage. An experienced performer, Arrow played the main lead as well during the Australian tour of the musical from 2021 to 2023. Hamilton’s most noted songs include "You’ll Be Back", "Wait For It" and "My Shot".

Hamilton was nominated for 16 Tony Awards after its first curtain call in 2015, of which it won 11 Tonys, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. In 2016, it also brought Lin-Manuel Miranda the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Best Musical Theatre Album at the Grammys.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is pretty much a legend to the musical world, having created and starred in the 2008 Broadway production In the Heights. He created the soundtracks for Disney’s Moana and Encanto, as well as co-wrote four new songs for the 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey.
